Hi Anna, Thanks for checking out my post. Glad you liked it! It’s about an hour to reach the lakes from the hut. There is a rough cairned trail from the hut, but it may be easier and quicker to just pick a way straight up the boulder fields. It’s a fun area to explore, so give yourself plenty of time to relax and enjoy it!

Can you still recall roughly how long it took you to hike from the Wendy Thompson hut to the Upper Lakes where you spent your first night? We stayed at the hut last year but didn’t go above, so just deciding if going further to the upper lakes to camp would be an option for us.

Hi Yvonne. Yes, you could potentially spend 5 days in the area. As I mention in the post one great option would be to hike up to Rohr Peak, the trail access to it is towards the beginning of the hike to Marriott Basin. Another option would be to hike to the upper basin and access the easy ridge to the west. From there you get a view to Cayoosh Mountain then hike down to a small pass basin with a lake, see photo in post. Climbers could probably climb Cayoosh Mountain from there. Lastly from the upper basin you could hike to the summit of Mount Marriott, I’m not sure but I think it’s just a basic scramble. For hiking or climbing details you may want to contact the Alpine Club of Canada Whistler section. I vaguely remember seeing one or two guidebooks on the area. I Know there is one for winter backcountry skiing, but I was unable to find it. Hope this helps!
