Artist Statement & Bio
I’m Alan Majchrowicz a photographer specializing in landscape and nature imagery. My intense passion for our natural world has led me on a lifelong journey to explore and photograph all aspects of our natural environment. With my camera, I actively search out subject matter that evokes the awesome beauty and ever-changing moods of our natural world. Whether it be classic grand vistas or the smallest details of a plant or rock.
Throughout this journey, I strive to record moments in which I feel an overwhelming connection with the natural world. For me, having that intimate connection with the subject is an essential element. It gives an image greater depth and meaning. I believe that only through this understanding can I create images that speak to the viewer. Which ultimately helps to bring a deeper appreciation of the world we are all a part of.
To this end, I will often return many times to a location in varying conditions and seasons, building my understanding of its unique personality. A successful image can sometimes come forth only after months, or even years, after an initial visit. Often visualizing the correct processing for a specific image isn’t always apparent at first. Also, I will often revisit an image in my files with new insight to complete the final visualization.
During childhood fishing trips to Northern Wisconsin, Alan Majchrowicz found his lifelong passion for nature. After acquiring his first camera in high school he became enthralled with all aspects of the photographic process. He later studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Here he realized his future path was to create images of the natural world through photography.
Residing with his family in the scenic Pacific Northwest town of Bellingham Washington, where the surrounding beauty provides plenty of inspiring subject matter. All his outdoor activities, such as hiking backpacking, and skiing, are seamlessly blending into his photographic art.
After photographing and honing his skills for many years with demanding large-format film cameras, Alan now works exclusively in digital format. His fine art prints are currently in demand by interior designers and corporate art buyers. For use in health care facilities, hospitality, corporate offices, and residential venues.
In addition, his images have been widely published throughout the world. They have been used in advertising campaigns, product design, tourism brochures, books, magazines, and calendars.
Furthermore, Alan shares his extensive knowledge of photography and natural history through teaching. Therefore inspiring others to appreciate or natural world.
